On the 2nd September 2016,

Dr. Nathalie Jean-Baptiste and Prof. Wilbard Kombe obtained 1st place of the Best Paper Awards during the Symposium Universities and Climate Change: The Role of Higher Education Institutions in addressing the Mitigation and Adaptation Challenges. The award ceremony was conducted at the Manchester Metropolitan University (please see photos attached). Their paper titled Opportunities and Barriers for Research and Actions in Climate Change Adaptation in Tanzania offers an overview of the last 10 years of research at Ardhi University and its role as agent of change in adaptation actions. The paper was well received at MMU and will be included in the peer-reviewed publication titled “Handbook of Climate Change Research at Universities: addressing the mitigation and adaptation challenges”.  This will be a unique, state-of-the-art publication, which will document and promote the research on climate change taking place at universities across the world. The publication will be part of the award-winning “Climate Change Management Sustainability Series” (launched in 2008), published by Springer.

In addition, Dr. Jean-Baptiste is establishing new links with members of the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) to undertake joint research on matters related to sustainable development in Africa and to facilitate high-level cross-disciplinary research from Ardhi University.
